Saguache County Court Docket Searches
Start with the free Colorado Judicial Branch Docket Search when you need a Saguache County court date or hearing location. It opens with Saguache already chosen. You can narrow the Saguache docket search by courthouse, by County or District Court, by date range, by division, by party or attorney, or by the three parts of a case number. Try a one-week window first. The calendar reaches hearings up to six months out, though it stops short of full case history.
Got the complete case number? Use it. Colorado case numbers combine a four-digit year, a case class, and a sequence, like 2026CR123. A name search is the fallback when the number is unknown, but common names can pull up many cases at once. Cut the noise by adding court type or a date range. Then work through this search order:
- Choose Saguache County and Saguache Combined Court.
- Select County Court, District Court, or Both.
- Enter the year, class, and sequence, or search by a party or attorney.
- Read the date, time, hearing type, appearance type, and courtroom on the newest result.
- Use CoCourts for a real-time register, or ask the clerk for the official ROA and filed papers.
Saguache Docket Search Is a Calendar
Colorado uses "docket" in two ways. The free Judicial Branch result is a schedule of proceedings still to come. The ROA, or Register of Action, is something else. It is the clerk's chronological case summary, with minute orders, charges, sentences, filings, and later activity. Mix them up and you hit a common dead end. A missing future date reads as "no case exists at all."
The official Saguache docket interface frames the calendar search around exactly that forward-looking view.
That framing is the point. The free tool is built around dates and settings. A blank result is not proof of anything, so widen the date window and check the class and spelling. Still nothing? Move on to CoCourts or the Saguache clerk.
Court Dockets: What They Show
A Saguache County court docket entry marks one scheduled event. It often carries enough detail to confirm the right case and plan for court. The ROA goes further. It gives the clerk's running index of case activity. A filed document supplies the actual text of a complaint, motion, order, petition, judgment, or sentence. Read these layers together whenever the result matters.
Keep the free calendar's limits in mind. It shows no charge, bond, plea, disposition, financial balance, attorney list, or document image. Those gaps are normal. They do not mean the court file lacks the information.
| Case number | Year, class code, and sequence, such as 2026CV42. |
|---|---|
| Calendar event | Date, start time, duration, hearing type, location, appearance type, and courtroom. |
| Register of Action | Chronological entries, minute orders, and case activity kept by the clerk. |
| Filed paper | The text of a complaint, petition, motion, order, judgment, or other chosen document. |
| Disposition | The outcome shown in the ROA or in a requested disposition, sentence, or judgment document. |
Saguache Docket Channels Compared
No single Saguache County court docket channel handles every task. The Judicial Branch calendar is free and fast. LexisNexis CoCourts sells real-time register data by name or case number. Its results are not the official record. It carries no document images, either. Colorado Courts E-Filing serves attorneys and authorized filers, not the general public browsing for papers.
The CoCourts view captured here shows the commercial register route named in Colorado's public-access guidance.
Need an authoritative ROA, an older file, or a certified copy? Go through the Saguache Combined Court webform, email, phone, mail, or counter. When two views disagree, the clerk remains the final source.
| Channel | Best use | Limit |
|---|---|---|
| Judicial Docket Search | Upcoming Saguache hearings | No case history or documents |
| CoCourts | Real-time ROA data | Paid and unofficial; no filed PDFs |
| CCE | Filing and service | Not a public search account |
| Combined Court clerk | Official ROA, papers, and certification | Processing and fees may apply |
Saguache County Courts and Their Dockets
Saguache Combined Court gives one clerk's front door to two trial-court levels. Saguache County District Court handles felonies. It also handles civil claims in any amount. Domestic relations, juvenile, probate, mental-health, and locally assigned water matters sit there as well. Saguache County Court takes misdemeanors, traffic infractions, limited civil claims, small claims, and protection orders. A felony complaint can begin in County Court. The charge can then move up to District Court.
The official Saguache trial-court page gathers those local functions in one place.
Municipal ordinance files sit outside this system. Center, Saguache, Crestone, Moffat, and Bonanza each handle local access differently, so a town citation will not fit the state-court search.
| Court | Main docket work | Search route |
|---|---|---|
| Saguache District Court | Felony, unlimited civil, family, juvenile, probate, mental health | State calendar, CoCourts, or Combined Court clerk |
| Saguache County Court | Misdemeanor, traffic, limited civil, small claims | State calendar, CoCourts, or Combined Court clerk |
| Water Division 3 | Rio Grande Basin water cases with class CW | State search and Alamosa-based division |
| Municipal courts | Town ordinances and locally adopted traffic codes | The issuing town’s clerk or posted docket |
One Saguache Clerk, Two Dockets
One Clerk of Court serves Saguache Combined Court. The files for both District Court and County Court sit with that office. This setup departs from states that elect a separate district clerk. It also departs from the Saguache County Clerk and Recorder. That office handles elections, recording, and motor vehicles. Ask the recorder for a judicial ROA. Your request lands at the wrong counter.
The official Combined Court location record identifies the shared courthouse and its clerk channel.
At the counter, give the case number first. Then name the item you want. An "ROA," a "filed order," and a "certified copy" are three separate requests, and precise wording lets the clerk quote the right fee. It also spares you a calendar printout when what you need is the full history.
Court Dates and Settings in Saguache County
Trust the current calendar entry over anything older. Results list the date, time, and expected duration. They also give case number, hearing type, Saguache location, appearance type, and courtroom. Labels such as First Appearance, Status Conference, PreTrial Readiness Conference, Setting, Plea Hearing, and Case Management Conference describe procedural events. They are not trials or final outcomes.
Saguache County Court does publish one fixed practice. Civil return dates fall on Fridays at 10:30 a.m. Even so, check the specific notice or a live result. A continuance can move a case. A blank Appearance Type is not permission to appear by video. Virtual appearances need advance approval, and watching a livestream does not count as appearing. The full Saguache County court schedule walks through each confirmation route.
Saguache Docket Case Codes
A Saguache County court docket number begins with a code. The code hints at the case type and the court likely handling it. CR stands for criminal and T for traffic. M marks a misdemeanor, DR covers domestic relations, and PR is probate. Small claims carry S. Water matters use CW, and general civil filings may show C or CV. Juvenile cases appear as JD or JV. Treat these codes as search filters only. They say nothing about how a case ends.
Take 2025T318 as an example. It splits into a year, a class letter, and a sequence number. Each part goes into its own box on the portal. If the search form uses separate fields, skip any punctuation of your own invention.
- ROA
- The Register of Action, which is the clerk’s chronological case summary.
- Setting
- A scheduled court event whose exact purpose may need clerk confirmation.
- Reset
- A hearing moved to another date; the old history may remain visible.
- Disposition
- The manner in which a charge or case ended.
- Minute order
- A short court record of what occurred or was ordered.
Docket Access Under Colorado Law
Copies of public court information are yours to request. Walking up to a counter is not the same as searching from home. Colorado sets its own rules for judicial records through court-issued directives. The Colorado Open Records Act covers government records generally. It does not override the judiciary's own rules for a case file. And some material stays closed no matter what: sealed records, judicial work product, protected identifiers, and certain juvenile items. The fact that other entries in a Saguache County court docket are open does not unlock those.
The Judicial Branch access-directive page holds the current rule text and its amendment history.
Expect to show ID if your request touches suppressed, juvenile, probate, or protected material. When an online docket search returns nothing, that gap can mean a restricted file, an old record stored off-site, or a search that was simply too narrow. It does not mean the court record is absent.
Key Colorado rules:
Chief Justice Directive 05-01 defines access to court records and limits on remote publication.
Chief Justice Directive 06-01 governs search, copy, certification, retrieval, and research fees.
C.R.S. §19-1-304 restricts access to specified juvenile court records.
Saguache Docket Access Across Distance
Saguache County spans 3,168.57 square miles. In 2020 it averaged just two people per square mile. Distances like that turn a court trip into a real expedition. Checking the docket from home first can spare you a long drive. A stale notice or a vague appearance field is no reason to cross the county. Volume matters here too. FY2024 brought 279 new District Court filings and 684 new County Court filings, or 963 matters across the two local levels.
Before a hearing, the judges and staff page names the people who serve the Saguache County court docket.
District judges here serve a six-county region, and the County Court bench gets 40% of one full-time equivalent. So confirm your assigned room, judge, and date before you appear. The county name alone cannot tell you which virtual courtroom your hearing sits in.
How the Clerk Keeps Docket Records
Brandie Taylor serves as the listed Saguache Clerk of Court. Her office holds the official case files and the ROA. It accepts requests five ways: the statewide webform, email, phone, the counter, or mail. The normal response target is three business days absent unusual circumstances. Expect a longer wait for an older off-site file. A large request or papers that need redaction also take more time.
The clerk's Record/Document Request Form is where most requests start. That official form lets you check off an ROA. You can pick specific civil, criminal, family, or probate papers, and ask for certification.
Give the exact case number whenever you can. Without one, a nonparty name search runs up to $5. Copies, certification, off-site retrieval, postage, and research can add charges, so hold off on payment until the clerk quotes a total for your Saguache County docket request.

Saguache Dockets Before the Digital Era
The county's 1881 courthouse burned in 1910. That fire is a concrete reason an early file may never appear in a modern system. John J. Huddart designed the replacement courthouse in 1910. When an old case seems missing, no tweak of a name spelling or date filter will fix it. Start with the Saguache clerk and hand over the broadest useful facts: approximate year, party names, case type, and any known number. If the file falls outside the clerk's holdings, ask about Colorado State Archives finding aids. Off-site retrieval is charged at actual cost. A clear request helps the office pull the right box or index.
Modern access to Saguache County court records has four layers: the court database, paid real-time ROA vendors, the free hearing calendar, and Colorado Courts E-Filing. None of them proves the entire historical run was digitized.
City-by-City Court Dockets in Saguache County
The five incorporated municipalities do not share one municipal docket. Each town court handles its own ordinance matters. State-law traffic and criminal cases route through the correct County or District Court. Center straddles the Saguache and Rio Grande county line. Crestone posts a physical docket before its odd-month sessions. The Town of Saguache runs a qualified court of record. Moffat and Bonanza publish far less current court detail.
The population figures that follow are whole-municipality counts from the 2020 Decennial Census. They describe community size, not docket volume. Read the issuing court on any citation before you pick a page.
Center Court Records
Population 1,929. The town clerk administers Municipal Court, and the two-county boundary can change the state-court route.
Saguache Court Records
Population 539. Its qualified Municipal Court of Record hears Town Code and ordinance cases.
Crestone Court Records
Population 141. Dockets are posted outside the Alder Meeting Room before court.
Moffat Court Records
Population 108. Town Hall and its CORA form are the current paper-first fallbacks.
Bonanza Court Records
Population 17. No official local court portal was located, so the issuing court and DOLA directory guide the search.
Saguache Water Dockets Use CW
Water Division 3 runs a regional docket that reaches into the Rio Grande Basin. It opened in 1969 and sits in Alamosa. More than 6,500 cases have been filed there since the start. FY2024 alone brought 32 filings touching 103 structures. A Saguache water case shows up under the CW class. Yet the setting is different from a County Court hearing in Saguache. The division has its own seat and its own virtual room.
Start with the full case number on the state calendar. If the result names a water referee or an Alamosa location, that assignment governs. The general Saguache WebEx room will not work here. A clerk can tell you whether the file sits locally or with the water division.
Read a CW entry as a water-court setting. It is not a general civil event just because both live under District Court. The calendar card gives hearing details and nothing more. Want the filing history? Pull the full CW number. Then ask the right clerk for a referee ruling, the ROA, or the underlying water document.
Map and Directions to the Saguache County Courthouse
District Court and County Court files for Saguache County are kept at Saguache Combined Court, inside the Saguache County Courthouse at 501 4th Street. The current courthouse, designed by John J. Huddart, replaced an 1881 building lost to fire in 1910. Ask for the Clerk of Court at the counter, not the elected County Clerk and Recorder.
